  • Myth- Make up should cover up your face
  • Truth- Make up should enhance your face, not cover it up
  • Myth- Mineral make up does not stay on
  • Truth- Mineral make up last all day long if applied right
  • Myth- Mineral make up is too expensive
  • Truth- Mineral make up is the same price as cream foundation when you factor in how long it last you

How many women learned to put makeup on in their teens and pretty much stuck to that method? Well, I was among those statistics. When we are in our teens we are trying cover up the unsightly blemishes, zits, and just bad skin! We were not worried about bringing out our true beauty. Course many of us thought we were doing just that by lathering it on! Remember the pancake makeup? Oh my, I do. And when I think about what I looked like in that, I cringe, wondering just what I was thinking! My aunt sold Mary Kay so you can imagine what my makeup looked like, plus the fact that I started applying makeup in the 80's. An era were more was considered better.

Though I did lose the pastel colors in my transition into adult hood, I still had the belief that I needed to cover up my skin. Always wondering why my skin looked bad. I am an adult, so why do I have zits still? That was my big question throughout my 20's and actually into my 30's as well. I always used a face wash, never soap. But I did not know at the time the benefits of exfoliating or better products. I was still under the impression that anything will work. Hey if the ad says so then it should right?

Now that I am going on 40 I am realizing that my skin needs to breath! It has taken some serious work to get my skin back to "normal", but the result is what I have always looked for. I have tossed the cream foundations right in the trash. There is no need to cover up my skin. This is a myth. Just look at all the models out there. Their makeup is not lathered on, you can actually see their skin! I am sure that their skin is thanking them.

I now use mineral makeup. And will never go back to all that goo I was putting on my face. My skin is very healthy now. The mineral makeup did take some getting use to, and I had to seek out professional help in order to know just how to apply it.

I once worked with a girl who always complained about how her skin was flaky. I asked her one day what she washed with. Her reply was "I don't. I just go to sleep and wash with soap in the morning." I tried to tell her that she needed to exfoliate and use a face wash every night before bed. Her response was that her skin was too dry to do this. Talk about a myth. That is one major myth. If you exfoliate then you remove all the dry skin and what you have left is smooth beautiful skin. I use Saint Ives apricot scrub every other day. This keeps all the dry and dead skin off my face. Hense leaving my skin soft and radiant.

First, before you make the move to a mineral makeup find a spa or salon that sells a mineral makeup. Call them up and tell them you would like to schedule a make up demo. These demos are free and will give you the chance to talk to a professional about the pros. And will also show you which tone to use on your face. Even if you do not purchase their brand you will come away from there with the knowledge of which tone color to use for your face. They will also show you how to apply the makeup. This is very important. You apply mineral makeup very different from a cream one. When applying mineral makeup you will need a thick, short, all natural brush. Just any brush will not do. Applying minerals in a buffing motion over the whole face is the proper method.

Though I use the mineral foundation I do not buy into the whole line. I still use my Cover Girl blush and my regular eye shadow, liner and such. Some things just can't be replaced.

The price of mineral make ups vary greatly. You can pay as little as $15 or as much as $80. Really depends on the line you chose. Krista Vance cosmetics is the mid range one that I prefer. http://www.kristavance.com. Her products are all natural and go on smooth with no flaking. She has a complete line of all the products you will need and at affordable prices. You can visit her site and learn a great deal about the mineral products.

When I am unable to get to Her products and in need of a replacement I have found that Maybelline is the next best thing. The only thing about them is they are limited on the choice of tones. They do not have the in between tone which I am. But when you are in need, you are in need! Go ahead and give minerals a try. Your skin will thank you for years to come.

I just cannot express how good it is to know there's someone out there that agrees cream foundation is unnecessary! I find that not only is (or was in my case) hard to find the right brand, color and amount to put on, to the time spent blending it so you don't have contrast with your neck! I use a concealer in a small tube from Estee Lauder, just to touch up tiny places and even out, the "50's" beginning wrinkles! I don't use the Kabuki brush for my mineral foundation, I use a foundation brush. I like Clinique's mineral make up the best and like you say, not all over! Just to touch up those areas and blend. When I use the kabuki brush, it tends to be too puffy (for lack of a better term) but raised, noticeable on my face. I don't like that, and I find when I smooth it on it's.. smooth! I like Clinique's casing better as well. There's little to none that goes wasted, as you can turn the top and it shaves off just what you need. then I dab my foundation brush in it and tap off any extra, which usually gets used, to blend into my chin to neck so there's no line. Nice hub, I hope you post more. I have two hubs almost ready to go on long hair and I want to do a make up one as well. You've inspired me to get a move on with those :) thanks!
